70 cm powder made the Kaunertal a winter wonderland and created perfect conditions for the start of the park season in the course of the 28th KTO 2013!
Blue bird powder days, massive shreds, heaps of side events, partysound at it´s finest and extraordinary community spirit were highlight of this years KTO. For the 28th time in a row the evadable boundaries between skiers and snowbaorders were broken and a distinctive flair was created.
Everything began with an onset of winter with everything you can ever ask for. Over night big fluffy flakes transformed the Kaunertaler glacier to a winter wonderland. Nature meant it a little too well with the Opening though. 50- 70 cm in a couple of hours were the reason why the roads to the glacier stayed closed on friday for safety reasons. The Opening Action moved from the mountain to the valley.
A alternative program full of creative street style set-ups and backyard jumps was offered infront of the Partytent in Feichten. The Blue Tomato Mini Skate Ramp & Chill out Lounge, a snowboard museum with snowboards of 3 decades, go-shres BBQ and Monster DJ sound were the ingredients to spent an awesome and chill time with good friends and old acquaintances from the Freeski and Snowboard szene.
KTO 2013 – day 1:
The doors to the Kaunertal glacier opened again on saturday and thousands of snow addicts sworm to the glacier for tow days to be part of the Opening Action at the KTO and got exited about over 70 cm fresh pow in park and backcountry.
One of the highlights on the mountain had doubtless been the Blue Tomato Testival with 70 international brand out of the Freeski and Snowboard szene to offer their latest gear for free testing. Topped off with rad beats from DJ Badspin a chill “Testival City” arose with Chill Out Lounges and many Side Events.
A benchmark for the Kauntertal Opening are the Freeski and Snowboard Contests. The crew from Schneestern made their magic happen and bewitched a phenomenal park including a jib line and a medium line. They even managed to awake the pro kicker line out of his summer sleep.
At the Amateur Contest on Saturday about 30 Freeskiers an 30 Snowboarders battlet for one of the desired Wildcards for the Pro Contest on Sunday. The standard was high but Tobi Müller managed to take two titles home. “Best Rookie” and “Best Male Rider” were his achievement at the Contest. Anna Paul won the Wildcards at the girls comp.

Parallel to that the Monster Rail Session presented by downdays.eu & Snowboarder MBM brought the back from summer riding to a higher level. Jibbing skills at it´s finest were seen. With his remarkable style, Stefan Langgaster won the Snowboard Rail Session.
The freeskier Alex Hall stood out the most out of all the Freeskiers. Rosina Fiedel as the only girl in the competition and was head to head with her male competitors.
Nother highlights were the legendary Party night at the party tent in Feichten.
On Friday night the snow addict crowd went wild to the beats from VZI Live Looping (AUT), London Guns DJs (UK) and DJ David Suivez (CH). Movie premieres from WhatWeWantFilms and Junkies on a Budget spread the excitement that skiing brings.
